The Master Europe Centrale et Orientale, Asie Centrale et Caucase (MAEAC) is a university master's program that offers tools for understanding the contemporary issues related to the complex space of Central and Eastern Europe, Central Asia, and the Caucasus. This region, once qualified as the "Eastern Bloc" or "Soviet Bloc," is in permanent recomposition, with new states emerging and affirming their sovereignty.
Program Description
The MAEAC is characterized by its great diversity, covering a territory that extends from Europe to the Pacific, and deploying complementary but rarely associated disciplines: history, geopolitics, political science, economics, law, and literature. The program is enriched by the activities of the LABEAC, a pluridisciplinary research and competence center of the Global Studies Institute (GSI), which brings together specialists of Central and Eastern Europe, Central Asia, and the Caucasus.
Program Structure
The MAEAC is a 6-semester program, with 120 ECTS credits. The program is divided into three parts:
- The first part consists of compulsory teachings of the common core.
- The second part allows students to choose areas of specialization from the second semester.
- The third part consists of the preparation of a thesis or a professionalizing internship.
Admission Criteria
To be admitted to the MAEAC program, candidates must submit the following documents:
- A letter of motivation
- University diplomas (BA, license, diplomas)
- Curriculum Vitae
- Detailed transcript of notes obtained (University)
- 2 letters of recommendation from university teachers or 1 letter of recommendation from a university teacher and 1 letter of recommendation from an employer The application period is from January 15 to February 28, and the registration is done exclusively online.

The integration of some states of the Central and Eastern European, Central Asian, and Caucasian space into the European Union and NATO, as well as Russia's attempts to maintain and extend its influence over its "near abroad," has created a need for specialists capable of carrying out well-supported analyses, particularly in international and regional organizations, national and European institutions, companies, media, and research institutions.
