Introduction to the Bachelor of Global Studies / Bachelor of Science Conjoint
The Bachelor of Global Studies / Bachelor of Science Conjoint degree combines a strong foundation in science with the study of global issues, addressing key challenges that confront us and future generations.
Programme Overview
A BGlobalSt/BSc conjoint allows students to complete a BGlobalSt and a BSc in less time than it would take to complete the two degrees separately. Students can combine one of four majors in the BGlobalSt with a wide range of subjects spanning the full range of scientific enquiry.
Programme Structure
The BGlobalSt/BSc usually takes four years to complete, consisting of:
- 255 points from BSc courses
- 255 points from BGlobalSt courses
- 30 points from General Education courses
Students can choose up to two subjects as their major(s) for the BSc component of their conjoint. For the Global Studies component, students will choose one major from the four options available:
- Global Environment and Sustainable Development
- Global Politics and Human Rights
- International Relations and Business
Entry Requirements
New Zealand Secondary School Qualifications
To enter the programme, students must meet the University Entrance (UE) standard and achieve a minimum rank score. Specific subject and credit requirements also apply.
- NCEA: 210 points, with a minimum of 16 credits in each of three subjects
- CIE: 230 points, with a minimum of three A-Level subjects
- IB: 28 points
Tertiary Qualifications
Students with prior tertiary study can transfer to the programme if they meet the requirements, including a minimum GPA of 3.9.
International Students
International students must meet the equivalent entry requirements, including:
- International Baccalaureate Diploma: 24 points
- GCE Advanced Level: three A-Level subjects
- English language requirements: IELTS 6.0, with no bands less than 5.5
Fees and Scholarships
2026 Fees
- Domestic students: NZ$9,369 - $9,883.35
- International students: NZ$53,124 - $58,667 Fees are inclusive of 15% GST and do not include the Student Services Fee, course books, travel, and health insurance, or living costs.

- Application closing dates: 8 December 2025 (Semester One 2026)
- Start dates: 2 March 2026 (Semester One) Other important dates, including orientation, enrolment, study breaks, exams, and graduation, are available on the University Calendar.
Planning Your Degree
The Bachelor of Global Studies consists of core courses, a major, a language, area studies, General Education, and elective courses. Students must plan carefully to complete all elements within the four-year programme.
- Core courses: GLOBAL 102, GLOBAL 200, and GLOBAL 300
- Major: 120 points, with at least 45 points at Stage III
- Language: sequential study, with four language courses in two consecutive years
- Area study: two courses, one at Stage II and one at Stage III
- General Education: one course, chosen from the Open, Arts, or Business and Economics Schedules
- Elective courses: 15 points, chosen from the major listings or elsewhere
