'Let's Talk' Language Learning Groups

Improve Your Communication Skills

The 'Let's Talk' language learning groups are designed for students who use English as an additional language (EAL) and want to improve their communication skills. These groups provide an opportunity to speak English with other students and local New Zealanders, enhancing listening, speaking, and vocabulary skills while connecting with others.

Program Details

The program offers three workshops: Let's Talk, Let's Talk to Locals, and Let's Talk to Aucklanders.

• Let's Talk: This workshop runs every Thursday from 1-2 pm. It is facilitated by an English Language Enrichment (ELE) Adviser and includes engaging speaking activities and topics.
  • Sessions are facilitated by an ELE Adviser.
  • No volunteers are involved in this workshop.
• Let's Talk to Locals: This workshop is held once a week for an hour. Each session starts with a language focus, followed by discussions in small groups with a local volunteer, and ends with an opportunity for feedback.
  • Sessions are offered on Wednesdays from 12-1 pm.
  • Facilitated by an ELE Adviser.
• Let's Talk to Aucklanders: This workshop is held on the first and third Friday of each month on the City Campus for two hours. Participants engage in a series of twenty-minute conversations with different people who live in Auckland.
  • Participants should come prepared to ask questions about topics of interest.
  • The session closes with a brief language-focused session with an ELE Learning Adviser.

Becoming a Volunteer

Students who grew up in New Zealand and use English in their home are invited to volunteer for the Let's Talk to Locals and Let's Talk to Aucklanders groups. Volunteers can register their interest by contacting the relevant personnel.
