Addressing Bullying, Harassment and Discrimination Training

The University of Auckland is committed to eliminating unfair bullying, harassment, and discrimination, aiming to create a safe, inclusive, and equitable environment.

Being an Upstander

It is essential to step in and help individuals in situations where they might feel uncomfortable or out of control, contributing to a safe and well University community.

Training Programme for Students

A newly developed two-part training programme addresses issues of Bullying, Harassment and Discrimination on campus. As of October 2020, it is a requirement for all student group registration processes to have at least two executives per group complete both parts of the training.

Part One: Online Training via Canvas

The online course provides participants with an awareness of bullying, harassment, and discrimination, including:

  • Definitions and examples of these concepts
  • How to recognise, respond, and refer to such behaviours
  • Guidance on where to get further support

Part Two: Practical Skills Training

This part of the training expands on the content of the online training, focusing on:

  • Student leaders' roles and responsibilities in creating safe, inclusive, and equitable environments
  • Teaching skills to respond to student disclosures of Bullying, Harassment, and Discrimination
  • Providing in-depth information about support services and referral pathways

Programme Details

  • The online training is a prerequisite to the practical skills training.
  • The practical skills training can be conducted face-to-face or via Zoom.
  • Each training session can accommodate up to 20 student participants.
  • Students must register for the training via the Engage platform.
