Master of Professional Studies (Education)

The Master of Professional Studies (Education) is a 120-point program designed to provide students with advanced knowledge and skills in education.

Full-time Program

The full-time program is completed over one year.

• In Semester 1, students enroll in:
  • EDUCSW 700: Research Methodologies (30 points)
  • Plus, choose 30 points from a list of approved 700-level courses, including:
    • EDCURRIC 700, 702706, 708, 714722, 723, 728, 729, 740, 750, 760, 763, 791
    • EDPRAC 750, 752
    • EDPROF 706, 709, 724, 725, 759
    • EDPROFM 700, 701, 702
    • EDPROFST 702708, 714752, 755, 760780, 782788
    • EDUC 702764, 767, 776, 777, 787, 791
    • SOCCLEAD 706
    • Other 700-level courses offered at the University and approved by the Programme Director
• In Semester 2, students enroll in:
  • EDCURRIC 797 OR EDPROFST 793 OR EDPROFM 797: Dissertation* (60 points)

Part-time Program

The part-time program is completed over two years.

• In Semester 1 of Year 1, students enroll in:
  • EDUCSW 700: Research Methodologies (30 points)
• In Semester 2 of Year 1, students choose 30 points from the postgraduate course list, ensuring the course is listed in the following:

  • EDCURRIC 797B OR EDPROFST 793B OR EDPROFM 797B: Dissertation* (30 points)

Dissertation

The dissertation code depends on the school of the supervisor:

• If the supervisor is in Curriculum and Pedagogy: EDCURRIC
• If the supervisor is in Learning, Development and Professional Practice or Critical Studies: EDPROFST
• If the supervisor is in Te Puna Wananga: EDPROFM
