Postgraduate Diploma in Counselling Theory

The Postgraduate Diploma in Counselling Theory is a programme designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of counselling theory and practice.

Full-time Programme (One Year)

New students starting full-time in Semester One, 2026, will follow this structure:

• Semester 1, 2026 (60 points)
  • PROFCOUN 701A: Counselling Laboratory (7.5 points)
  • PROFCOUN 705A: The Counselling Process (15 points)
  • PROFCOUN 706: Cultural Issues in Counselling (15 points)
  • PROFCOUN 708: Professional Issues in Counselling (15 points)
  • PROFCOUN 711A: Counselling Practicum (7.5 points)
• Semester 2, 2026 (60 points)
  • PROFCOUN 701B: Counselling Laboratory (7.5 points)
  • PROFCOUN 705B: The Counselling Process (15 points)
  • PROFCOUN 711B: Counselling Practicum (7.5 points)
  • Choose one research methods course from the following:
    • EDUCSW 700: Research Methodologies (30 points)
    • EDUC 787: Mori and Indigenous Research (30 points)

Part-time Programme (Two Years)

New students starting part-time in Semester One, 2026, will follow this structure:

Year 1

• Semester 1, 2026 (30 points)
  • PROFCOUN 701A: Counselling Laboratory (7.5 points)
  • PROFCOUN 705A: The Counselling Process (15 points)
  • PROFCOUN 711A: Counselling Practicum (7.5 points)
• Semester 2, 2026 (30 points)
  • PROFCOUN 701B: Counselling Laboratory (7.5 points)
  • PROFCOUN 705B: The Counselling Process (15 points)
  • PROFCOUN 711B: Counselling Practicum (7.5 points)

Year 2

• Semester 1, 2027 (30 points)
  • PROFCOUN 706: Cultural Issues in Counselling (15 points)
  • PROFCOUN 708: Professional Issues in Counselling (15 points)
• Semester 2, 2027 (30 points)
  • Choose one research methods course from the following:
    • EDUCSW 700: Research Methodologies (30 points)
    • EDUC 787: Mori and Indigenous Research (30 points)
