International Research Programme
The International Research Programme offers students the opportunity to gain critical research skills by working alongside academics in the Faculty of Arts and Education. The programme explores global issues, such as refugee resettlement and indigenous identity.
Programme Information
The programme is designed for students who have completed two years of undergraduate study and have a strong academic record. A background that reflects the research topic is preferred, but not essential.
- The programme length is 6 to 8 weeks (flexible)
- 2025 dates: 16 June to 8 August 2025
Research Projects
Students will contribute to research projects that tackle complex, global issues. This year's research projects include:
- Public Policy, Precarious Peoples and the Emergency Humanitarian Visa Pathway in Australasia
- Area: Politics and International Relations
- Emergence: A New Approach to Artistic Creativity
- Area: Art History
- Linguistic Diversity and Discrimination in Higher Education
- Area: Asian Studies
- Colonial Photography and Global Advertisement: Germany in Samoa
- Areas: German/Pacific Studies
- Still Women : Alternative Representations of Ageing Women in Shorts
- Areas: Film and Media Studies and Gender Studies
Course Structure
Students will join a cohort of research students and work alongside academics in the Faculty of Arts and Education on a variety of research tasks. Students will be engaged full-time (approximately 40 hours per week).
Course Assessment
Each research project will involve a variety of research tasks, and assessment will involve a written report and analysis of research themes.
Credit Weighting
International students will receive 15 NZ points (approximately 3-5 US credits) on an official University of Auckland transcript.
Entry Criteria
This programme is designed for students who have completed two years of undergraduate study and have a strong academic record. A background that reflects the research topic is preferred, but not essential.

- Apply for the Certificate of Proficiency for Overseas
- Select Quarter Three 2025 as the start term
- Submit a personal statement (including 2-3 research projects in preference order) and a curriculum vitae
- Deadline to apply for the next intake is 15 March 2025
