Overview

The Certificate in Tourism and Hospitality Management allows students across Temple University to enhance their major degrees with exposure to a program that prepares students for success in the hospitality industry as well as the realm of tourism. The Tourism and Hospitality Management certificate integrates foundational business principles, tourism and destination-specific knowledge, as well as innovative concepts relevant to success within hospitality operations, food and beverage, gaming, and event leadership.


Program Details

  • The certificate is open to all students at Temple except those majoring in the BS in Tourism and Hospitality Management (THM), BS in Tourism, Hospitality and Event Management (THE), and BS in Multidisciplinary Studies in Sport, Tourism, Hospitality and Event Management with a concentration in Tourism, Hospitality and Event Management.
  • The certificate consists of four courses (12 credits); one required course with three additional courses to be selected from the list of electives.
  • Campus Locations: Main, Japan

Declare Your Certificate

Students interested in declaring this certificate in the School of Sport, Tourism and Hospitality Management (STHM) should:


  1. Meet with their home academic advisor to confirm the certificate will fit into their present academic and graduation plan.
  2. Submit a Change of Program Request form to officially add the certificate.
  3. Once approved, the form will be submitted electronically to the Office of the University Registrar (O.U.R).

  • Total credits needed for the certificate: 12
  • Students should select courses in consultation with an STHM advisor.

    • THE 3328: Gaming and Casino Management 1
    • THE 3357: Sales and Revenue Generation in Events and Hospitality
    • STHM 2114: Diversity, Equity and Inclusion in Experience Industries
    • STHM 2401: Foundations of Event and Entertainment Management
  • Total Credit Hours: 12

Additional Notes

  • A grade point average of 2.0 in the certificate is required, as well as a minimum grade of C- in each course.
  • Students may not receive both the minor and certificate in Tourism and Hospitality Management. Students would need to rescind the certificate to upgrade to the minor.
