Temple University Rome
Temple University Rome is located in the heart of the Eternal City, near the Spanish Steps and the sprawling urban parks of Villa Borghese and the historic French Academy at Villa Medici. This unique location provides an ideal setting for deepening artistic practice.
Studio Art Program
The Studio Art program at Temple University Rome offers a range of courses and dedicated spaces, including:
- Papermaking Studio: Experiment with the art of making paper by hand, exploring texture and material in creative expression.
- Printmaking Studio: Try monotype, relief, intaglio, and silkscreen processes to layer images, play with repetition, and expand visual storytelling.
- Book Arts Lab: Turn ideas into books, zines, and bold printed projects using the RISOgraph for vibrant, multi-color works.
- Darkroom Wet Lab: Experience the magic of film photography, developing and printing images to see light, time, and process in new ways.
- Digital Lab: Bring work into the digital world with professional tools for editing and printing, including 3D printing.
- Painting & Drawing Studios: Work in bright, spacious, shared studios to experiment on any scale, refining practice in painting or drawing.
- 3D Studio: Explore the human form through figure modeling, sharpening the eye for proportion and form while building confidence in three-dimensional expression.

Art History and Language Options
In addition to studio art courses, the program offers a wide range of Gen-Eds, Art History, and Language options to ensure alignment with the path to graduation. Study abroad waives the Gen-Ed (GG) World requirement.
On-Site Excursions
Art history classes meet once a week on site, taking students on a voyage through Rome's churches, museums, and historic sites. Studio art classes incorporate on-site excursions to deepen engagement with materials and process, visiting places like the Venice Biennale, Arte Fiera di Bologna, Fabriano, Tarquinia, Florence, Mantova, Siena, Naples, Milan, and museums, galleries, and historic landmarks in and around Rome.
Internships
Temple Rome facilitates internships across the city with contemporary artists, craftsmen, academies, and businesses, providing art students with hands-on experience working in the field with lead practitioners.

Temple Rome's Gallery of Art
The Gallery of Art at Temple Rome has hosted exhibitions by local and international artists for over 35 years, cultivating an exhibition program that provides a platform for new voices and presents known artists in new ways. The exhibitions bring students into direct contact with contemporary art in Rome, and at the end of the semester, the Gallery features a final student exhibition.
Resident Artist Program
Students have the opportunity to learn with a Resident Artist, gaining insight into professional practice and the transition to a career in the arts.
