نظرة عامة على البرنامج
Physics (BSc)
The Physics program at Concordia University is designed to provide students with a thorough understanding of the fundamental principles of physics and their applications. The program offers two options: Physics and Biophysics.
Program Overview
Studying Physics sends students on a journey to the end of the universe or into the centre of an atom. Physicists build lasers, design medical imaging machines, and develop applications for nanotechnology. The program requires a strong foundation in mathematics and prepares students for graduate studies or a career in the pure or life sciences.
Program Structure
A Bachelor of Science degree in Physics takes a minimum of three or four years (90 120 credits) of full-time study, depending on the student's academic background. The program offers several options, including:
- Specialization in Physics Physics option (66 credits)
- Specialization in Physics Biophysics option (66 credits)
- Major in Physics (45 credits)
- Minor in Biophysics (24 credits)
- Honours in Physics Physics option (72 credits)
- Honours in Physics Biophysics option (72 credits)
Program Highlights
The program highlights include:
- Choosing between two options to concentrate studies: Physics or Biophysics
- Receiving a thorough foundation in all branches of physics, including mathematics, classical mechanics, electricity and magnetism, waves and optics, quantum mechanics, and modern and theoretical physics
- Preparing for graduate studies or a career in the pure or life sciences
Admission Criteria
The admission criteria for the Physics program include:
- Minimum cut-off averages and course requirements for Quebec CEGEP, high school, International Baccalaureate (IB) diploma, International Baccalaureate Career-related Programme (CP), Baccalauréat français, and British system of education (GCE)
- Completion of specific courses in mathematics, biology, chemistry, and physics
- Meeting Concordia's minimum admission requirements
Application Deadlines
The application deadlines for the Physics program are:
- March 1 for Fall entry (September)
- November 1 for Winter entry (January)
- Earlier deadlines for U.S. and international applicants to allow time for immigration document processing
After Graduation
Graduates of the Physics program leave with the knowledge and creative thinking skills required for graduate studies or a career in the pure or life sciences. They can pursue careers in various scientific fields, including:
- Nanotechnology
- Medical imaging and radiation treatment
- Energy
- Telecommunications
- Laser and satellite design
- Biophysics graduates can take leadership roles in teams of scientists and engineers, with the knowledge and tools to cross traditional academic disciplines.
