Program Overview
The Building Sustainability Master's program is an interdisciplinary course designed for professionals aiming to pursue a career in real estate project planning and management, with a strong focus on sustainability and sensitivity to diverse urban contexts. The program equips students with essential skills, methods, and conceptual tools to understand and integrate various approaches to sustainable development.
Admission Requirements
Formal Admission Requirements
The formal admission requirements for the master's program are a first university degree qualifying a graduate for professional work (equivalent to at least 210 ECTS credits and recognized by German universities) and relevant professional experience of not less than one year following graduation.
Selection Procedure
Admission is subject to a selection procedure, with the following criteria:
- The overall grade achieved in the previous degree
- Results from the Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT), Graduate Record Examination (GRE), or a comparable evaluation (if available)
- The relevance of the subjects taken in the previous degree program
- Proof of all relevant professional experience of six months or more gained since graduation
- Proven level of English (see below)
- Motivation and reasons for applying to the master's program, as well as the overall impression made by the application
Language Requirements
The program is taught entirely in English. Proof of English language proficiency at Level B2 or higher (CEFR) is required for admission, unless the high school graduation certificate is from an English-speaking institution.

- Motivation letter in English (maximum one A4 page)
- Statement of purpose
- Tabular CV (including educational and professional background)
- A relevant portfolio (if applicable)
- Proof of at least one year of work experience following the first degree
Program Structure
The continuing education master's degree begins in the winter semester and may be completed within three semesters (standard period of study).

- Economics (6 credit points)
- Business (9 credit points)
- Law (6 credit points)
- Management (12 credit points)
- Lecture series: Sustainable, energy-efficient conversion of buildings and neighborhoods (6 credit points)
- Smart Buildings and the Integration of Renewable Energies (6 credit points)
- Energy Performance of Buildings (6 credit points)
- Master's thesis (18 credit points)
Compulsory Elective Modules
(Must select 12 credit points, not all modules will be offered each year.)
- Energy-Efficient Societies (6 credit points)
- Circular Economy in Buildings - NEW, still in development (6 credit points)
- Sustainable Building Principles and LCA - NEW, still in development (6 credit points)
Internships
The master's program does not require students to complete an internship. However, students can benefit from a number of excursions as well as the professional and academic experience and networks of their lecturers to develop contacts to companies offering internships.
Stays Abroad
Students have the option of organizing their own study-related stay abroad. The program is designed to provide students with an opportunity to do so in an academic mobility period in either the second or preferably third semester.

Graduates of the Building Sustainability MBA program acquire a unique blend of interdisciplinary skills that prepare them to lead complex projects at the intersection of sustainability, real estate, and urban development. They develop expertise in sustainable project management, energy performance assessment, and the application of smart building technologies.
After Studies
Graduates of the Building Sustainability MBA program are well prepared for leadership roles in sustainable construction, real estate development, urban planning, and energy policy. They work as project managers, sustainability consultants, energy efficiency experts, or innovation managers in both the public and private sectors. The program also opens pathways to academic or research-based careers focused on the built environment and climate-friendly development.
