Double Degree: Comparative Public Governance

The Double Degree in Comparative Public Governance is a two-year program offered in collaboration with the University of Münster in Germany. This program provides students with a deeper understanding of the political context of international public governance and a comparative approach to understanding the challenges that lie within different nation-states.


Structure

The double degree program starts in September and entails a total of two years (four semesters). The structure of the program is as follows:


  • The first semester is spent at the University of Twente.
  • The second and third semesters are spent at the University of Münster.
  • The last semester is spent writing a master's thesis under the joint supervision of professors from both universities.

Curriculum

The curriculum for the double degree program is as follows:


Semester 1 (University of Twente)

  • Introduction to Comparative Public Governance
  • European Institutional Framework
  • International Political Economy
  • Global Public Policy
  • Governance & Technology Beyond the Nation State
  • Plus Elective Course

Semester 2 (University of Münster)

  • Core Module Political Steering
  • Core Module Political Participation
  • Current and Future Challenges of Comparative Public Governance

Semester 3 (University of Münster)

  • A combination of an internship and elective courses
  • Exchange program with partner universities of the University of Münster

Semester 4 (University of Twente / University of Münster)

  • Writing a master's thesis under the joint supervision of professors from both universities

Total EC

The total EC for the double degree program is 120 EC.


Admission

To apply for the double degree program, students must first apply for the Master's in European Studies at the University of Twente. There are no extra requirements for the double degree; once accepted into European Studies, students are eligible for the double degree in Comparative Public Governance. Students can opt into the double degree during the first semester of their European Studies master's.


Additional Requirements

Students who completed their previous degree in China, India, or Vietnam must obtain a certificate from the German Academic Evaluation Centre (APS) in the respective country.


Degrees Awarded

Upon completion of the double degree program, students will receive two Master's degrees:


  • Master of Science in European Studies (University of Twente)
  • Master of Arts in Comparative Public Governance (University of Münster)
