Program Overview
The Deutsches Herzzentrum der Charité (DHZC) offers a comprehensive training program for Operationstechnische Assistenz (OTA). This three-year program provides students with the necessary skills and knowledge to become a qualified Operationstechnische Assistenz.

Responsibilities and Tasks
As an Operationstechnische Assistenz, students will work closely with all professional groups in the interprofessional operating room team. Key responsibilities include:
- Sterile assistance during surgical procedures in various surgical specialties
- Non-sterile room assistance and documentation
- Organization of work processes before, during, and after operations
- Handling of medical-technical devices
- Hygienic working methods according to scientific guidelines
- Execution of all tasks while considering legal and institutional framework conditions
Practical Training
The practical training takes place at the Deutsches Herzzentrum der Charité and in cooperation facilities in various surgical specialties, such as:
- Heart, thorax, and vascular surgery
- Preparation unit for medical products
- Stationary area
- Anesthesia functional service
- Emergency room/ambulance
- Interventional functional units
Theoretical Training
The theoretical training is conducted in block units at the Akademie der Gesundheit Berlin-Brandenburg.
Requirements
To be eligible for the program, applicants must:
- Have a completed secondary school diploma or an equivalent school diploma or Abitur
- Possess the necessary health and personal suitability for the profession
- Have an interest in medical contexts and enjoy working with people
- Be a team player with organizational skills
- Demonstrate a high level of reliability, sense of responsibility, commitment, and willingness to work
- Be trustworthy and discreet, particularly when handling patient data
- Have excellent German language skills in writing and speaking
- Ideally, have initial insights into the hospital environment

Training Allowance
The training allowance is based on the tariff agreement for trainees and increases over the three years of training:
- 1st year of training: 1,340.69
- 2nd year of training: 1,402.07
- 3rd year of training: 1,503.38

Application Deadline
