Introduction to the Master's Program in Supply Chain Management

The Supply Chain Management track is part of the two-year master's program in Operations and Management Logistics. This program is designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of supply chain management, including the latest advances in inventory control, distribution, store operations, and more.

Program Overview

The program is divided into two years, each consisting of semesters that run from September to January and from February to July. Each semester is further divided into quarters of eight weeks, during which students attend classes. Knowledge is assessed throughout each quarter and/or during subsequent examination periods of two weeks. The program combines interactive lectures, engaging assignments, and group work on topics related to state-of-the-art research by TU/e professors, all conducted in English.

Program Structure

The program is structured as follows:

  • Year 1:
    • Track core courses (35 ECTS)
    • Track elective courses (10 ECTS)
    • Free elective courses (15 ECTS)
  • Year 2:
    • Q1 + Q2: Literature research (5 ECTS) and international semester/internship and elective courses (25 ECTS)
    • Q3 + Q4: Graduation project (30 ECTS)

Track Core Courses

In the first year, students of Supply Chain Management follow seven core courses, some of which offer choices between multiple options. These courses focus on research methods in operations management and logistics, artificial intelligence, work and organizational psychology for operations management, multi-echelon inventory management, retail operations, business process management, and the design of operations planning and control systems.

Elective Courses

In addition to the compulsory core courses with limited flexibility, students can also select 10 ECTS (usually two courses) from a list of courses closely related to Supply Chain Management and 15 ECTS (usually three courses) of free elective courses. These elective courses allow students to deepen and/or broaden their knowledge, giving them full freedom to tailor their program to their interests and ambitions.

Relevant Courses

Examples of relevant courses for Supply Chain Management include:

  • 1CM100 Multi-Echelon Inventory Management: Covers the broad range from inventory policies for basic supply chains to the complex inventory optimization of general supply chains.
  • 1CM40 Retail Operations: Aims to acquaint students with the retail sector, covering recent advances in inventory control, distribution, store operations, assortment planning, and more.
  • 1BM05 Business Process Management: Focuses on the integrated management of business processes to improve their effectiveness and efficiency.
  • 1BM20 Business Analysis for Information Technology Systems: Involves defining needs and designing/describing IT solutions for business problems.
  • 1CM140 Design of Operations Planning and Control Systems: Trains students to develop control structures for complex production and inventory systems.

Graduation Project

The master's program concludes with a graduation project, often conducted within a company in the relevant domain. Given that Brainport comprises over 5,000 high-tech and IT companies, the region offers a wide range of opportunities to find a place that fits. Together with a supervisor from the company and academic supervisors, students formulate a practical, scientific, and relevant research question. This results in a master's thesis based on three elements:

  1. Literature research (5 ECTS)
  2. Project proposal (no separate ECTS; part of 3)
  3. Graduation project (30 ECTS)

Studying Abroad

In a world that is increasingly interconnected, the opportunity to spend part of the program abroad can provide valuable experience for an international career in technological innovation, including supply chain management. The Supply Chain Management track within Operations Management and Logistics therefore offers the possibility to go abroad in the first two quarters of the second year of the program.

Conclusion

The Master's program in Supply Chain Management at the Eindhoven University of Technology offers a comprehensive and flexible curriculum designed to equip students with the knowledge, skills, and network necessary to succeed in the field of supply chain management. With its strong industry connections, international opportunities, and research-driven approach, this program is ideal for students seeking to make a significant impact in the global supply chain landscape.
