Mechanical Engineering Bachelor's Program

The Mechanical Engineering Bachelor's program at Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e) has undergone changes with the implementation of Bachelor College 2.0. Students who started in 2023/2024 or later follow the new curriculum, while those who started before 2023/2024 continue with the old curriculum, which is being phased out.

Curriculum Overview

The curriculum for students who started in 2022/2023 or before includes basic courses, core courses, elective courses, and a Bachelor End Project (BEP). The program also offers opportunities for studying abroad, honors academy, and career activities.

Changes in Courses

Due to the new curriculum, several courses have been phased out, replaced, or changed in terms of name, code, quartile, or timeslot. These changes may affect students' planning and workload. Some notable changes include:

  • Introduction to Mechanical Engineering: Changed from 4GA00 to 4CBLA00.
  • Design of a Launching Mechanism: Changed from 4GA10 to 4CBLA10.
  • Applied Natural Science: Changed from 3NBB0 to 3NBB0 (with adjustments in final exam options).
  • Data Analytics: Replaced by Principles of Design and Programming.
  • Multiped Robot: Changed from 4GA40 to 4CBLA20.
  • USE Base: Replaced by ITEC Engineering Ethics.
  • Solar Heat System: Changed from 4GA50 to 4CBLB00 (with changes in quartile and replacement course).

Year-Specific Changes

Changes in courses are detailed for each year of the program:

Year 1

  • Introduction Mechanical Engineering: 4GA00 to 4CBLA00.
  • Design of a Launching Mechanism: 4GA10 to 4CBLA10.
  • Applied Natural Science: Adjustments in 3NBB0.
  • Data Analytics: Replaced by Principles of Design and Programming.
  • Multiped Robot: 4GA40 to 4CBLA20.
  • USE Base: Replaced by ITEC Engineering Ethics.
  • Solar Heat System: 4GA50 to 4CBLB00.

Year 2

  • Engineering Design: 4WBB0 to 4CBLW00.
  • Signals and Systems: 4CB00 to 4CA20.
  • Modelling of Time Dependent Systems: 4GB00 to 4CBLA30.
  • Thermodynamics: 4EB00 remains the same but moves to a different quartile.
  • Combustion Engine: 4GB10 to 4CBLB10.
  • Robotarm: 4GB20 to 4CBLB20.
  • Heat and Flow: 4PB00 remains the same but changes from C to E.
  • Strength and Structure: Moves from 2.4 to 3.3.

Year 3

  • Computer Aided Engineering: 4GC00 to 4CBLC20.
  • Computational Mechanics: 4MC10 remains the same but changes from C to E.
  • Model-based Systems Engineering: Replaced by Introduction to Autonomous Robotics or Control of Manufacturing Systems.
  • Design Principles: 4CC30 to a combined course 4CC40.
  • Analysis of Production Systems: Combined with 4CC30 into 4CC40.
  • CBL Mechanical Design Project: 4GC10 to 4CBLC30.
  • Thermal and Fluid Engineering: 4PC00 remains the same but moves to a different quartile.

Transitions for USE Learning Lines

USE learning lines, such as Engineering Design, are being phased out or replaced. For example, the USE learning line Engineering Design can be replaced by specific courses in the new curriculum.

Advice for Students

Students are advised to carefully review the changes in courses and plan their study schedule accordingly to avoid delays. It is recommended to:

  • Read the overview of changes carefully.
  • Keep track of announcements.
  • Study course descriptions and schedules.
  • Check for updates on USE learning trajectories.
  • Contact academic advisors for questions or doubts.

Curriculum per Generation

Each study generation has its own curriculum, which can be found on the university's website. The curriculum includes the subjects that must be passed for an undergraduate degree.
