Research Lines
The program has several research lines, including:
- Bases and mechanisms of disease or therapeutic response: Investigates the main physiological and pathological mechanisms involved in the development, course, and treatment of diseases.
- Clinical evaluation, diagnosis, or prognosis of pathologies: Focuses on the development of techniques or therapies that contribute to the improvement of prevention, diagnosis, and/or treatment of diseases.
- Fisiopathological foundations of development: Includes thesis related to research in Child and Adolescent Health.
- Research in psychiatry, medical humanities, and medical psychology: Investigates various areas, including medical humanities, healthy aging, suicidal behavior, well-being, social determinants, and health inequalities.
- Molecular pathology in Anatomical Pathology: Focuses on the etiopathogenesis of cancer and cellular and molecular mechanisms of development, metastasis, and treatment resistance.
- Surgical research: Investigates the main surgical techniques and procedures for the treatment or prevention of diseases.
- Perinatal medicine: Includes thesis related to research in Maternal-Fetal Health, Nutrition, and neonatal diseases.
Access
- Access Requirements: No specific additional requirements.
- Recommended Profile:
- Hold a university degree that, after obtaining a place in specialized health training, has passed at least two years of training in a program for obtaining an official title in one of the health sciences specialties.
- Students who have completed a degree in Nursing and an official master's degree.
- Students who have completed a degree in Physiotherapy, Biology, Biochemistry, Food Science, Human Nutrition and Dietetics, or related areas, and have completed an official master's degree in the field of biomedicine.
- Complementary Training: In cases where the academic commission considers that the candidate's previous training is not sufficient or adequate for access to the doctoral program, complementary training may be required.
Admission
- Admission Criteria: The Academic Commission of the Doctoral Program in Medicine and Surgery will analyze the applications of candidates who meet the access profile, evaluating the following aspects and merits for their selection:
- Presentation of the Director's Endorsement (requirement).
- Academic record of undergraduate and master's studies (70% of the total score).
- Level of English knowledge (15%).
- Other candidate merits (15%).
- Documentation to be Presented:
- Application for admission through the SIGMA telematic platform.
- Director's Endorsement of the Thesis: Including a brief justification of the research study, the research line to which it belongs, and the designation of professors or researchers who will direct or collaborate on the proposal.

Planification
- Specific Activities: From their enrollment, doctoral students must register all activities carried out in an individualized document generated in the SIGMA academic management system.
- Thesis Doctoral: Before the final deposit date of the thesis, the doctoral student must upload the required documentation to the SIGMA platform, including the final version of the thesis, articles published, and the proposal of the tribunal.
