Special Eligibility
All higher education credits from semesters 1-4 and the course Medicinsk vetenskaplig metodologi (Medical Scientific Methodology) and at least 40 credits from the course Klinisk medicin (Clinical Medicine).
A student who has failed the verksamhetsförlagd utbildning (VFU)/equivalent due to serious deficiencies in knowledge, skills, or attitude that risk patient safety or patient confidence in healthcare is eligible for a new VFU opportunity only after completing the individual action plan.
Objectives
Purpose
The purpose of the course is for the student to achieve the clinical competencies required to begin working as a doctor, based on the entire care chain, within the specialties of surgery, urology, orthopedics, oncology, anesthesiology, and intensive care, as well as diagnostic and functional medicine, primary care, and forensic medicine.
Learning Objectives
The knowledge is level-divided according to the SOLO taxonomy (S1-S4) and the skills according to Miller's pyramid (M1-M4).
Knowledge and Understanding
The student should:
- Be able to account for, analyze, and explain common, acute, and life-threatening conditions in surgery, orthopedics, urology, and oncology, and explain how these conditions are treated (S3).
- Be able to account for, analyze, and explain the choice of anesthetic form and imaging examinations (S3).
- Be able to account for and compare both the division of labor between different levels of care and different professional categories, as well as the importance of interprofessional and multidisciplinary collaboration (S3).
Skills
The student should:
- Be able to take anamnesis, perform a status (M3), make a preliminary assessment, and provide information and plan treatment (M3).
- Be able to identify, manage, and treat common conditions in surgery, orthopedics, urology, and oncology on a scientific and evidence-based basis (M3).
- Be able to manage common, acute, and life-threatening conditions in interprofessional and multidisciplinary collaboration (M3).
Attitude
The student should:
- Behave respectfully towards patients, other students, teachers, and staff, and take active responsibility for their learning and professional development (PU).

- Professionell utveckling (Professional Development): Mandatory attendance at a mentor-led workshop group
- Vetenskaplig utveckling (Scientific Development): Written assignment and oral presentation
- Introduktionsveckan (Introduction Week): Mandatory attendance at seminars, skills training, and case-based teaching
- Slutexamination (Final Examination): Consists of three separate parts: written examination, structured practical test, and oral examination
Grading
The grades are Godkänd (Passed) or Underkänd (Failed). Each part of the final examination must be passed.
Limitation of Examination Opportunities
A student who has failed a verksamhetsförlagd utbildning (VFU) or equivalent due to serious deficiencies in knowledge, skills, or attitude that risk patient safety or patient confidence in healthcare is eligible for a new VFU opportunity only after completing the individual action plan.
Transition Provisions
The course will be discontinued and given for the last time in the spring semester 2024. In addition to regular written examinations, three additional examination opportunities will be offered for students who have not completed the course with a passing result.
Other Regulations
- Course evaluation: Students will answer a web-based course questionnaire in connection with the examination.
- English-language course: An English-language course is given annually during the autumn semester.
