Course Details
Basic pathophysiology and disease theory
Overview
The course provides basic knowledge of diseases that are significant for public health. The course discusses fundamental pathophysiological principles and the causes and treatment of tumor diseases, cardiovascular diseases, respiratory diseases, and diabetes, with a particular focus on acute changes.
Course Description
The course is aimed at those who lack previous higher education and want to get an introduction to the subject of disease (pathophysiology). The course assumes that you have knowledge of the healthy human body, for example from studies in the care and nursing program.
Teaching
The teaching takes place through web-based learning activities, such as live lectures, workshops, and examinations.
Course Goals
The course aims to introduce the subject of disease and develop an understanding of the underlying mechanisms and disease images in serious diseases that are significant for public health. The course should also stimulate a scientific approach.

Course Objectives
After completing the course, the student should be able to:
- Explain the causes and clinical picture of serious diseases
- Account for the treatment and prevention of serious diseases
- Explain and assess the clinical picture of acute deteriorations and potentially life-threatening conditions in serious diseases
Examination
The course is examined through two oral exams and one written, individual exam.
