Course: Vetenskapsteori och forskningsmetodik i arbetsterapi, fysioterapi och omvĺrdnad

Course Overview

The course "Vetenskapsteori och forskningsmetodik i arbetsterapi, fysioterapi och omvĺrdnad" (Scientific Theory and Research Methods in Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy, and Nursing) provides in-depth knowledge of scientific theory, ethics, and research methodology in both qualitative and quantitative methods.

Course Description

The course aims to develop the student's ability to analyze and critically examine research in various fields. It also deepens the student's knowledge of how to formulate a scientific question and plan and write an extended research plan.

Course Objectives

The objective of the course is for the student to acquire in-depth knowledge and understanding of scientific theory and methodology, research ethics, and quantitative and qualitative research methods, as well as the ability to apply this knowledge in research within the fields of occupational therapy, physiotherapy, or nursing.

Course Content

The course content includes:

• Scientific and knowledge theoretical foundations
• Research ethics
• Quantitative research methodology, including the formulation of research questions, research design, data collection methods, and statistical analysis methods
• Qualitative research methodology, including the formulation of research questions, research design, data collection methods, and analysis methods
• Critical examination of scientific literature

Teaching Methods

The teaching methods used in the course include lectures, seminar discussions, group work with peer learning, and individual assignments.

Examination

The examination is both formative during the course and summative through a written report. The written report should cover all the learning objectives of the course and be presented and discussed in a seminar.

Requirements

To be eligible for the course, students must have a degree in occupational therapy, physiotherapy, or nursing of at least 180 higher education credits, or a Bachelor's degree in these fields. Additionally, students must have Swedish B/Swedish 3 and English A/English 6 with a minimum grade of Pass/E.

Literature

The recommended literature for the course includes books on research methodology, statistics, and scientific theory, such as "Practical Statistics for Medical Research" by Douglas G. Altman, and "Vetenskapsteori" by Jacob Birkler.
