Master of Medical Biotechnology

The Master of Medical Biotechnology is a future-focused career program that transforms human health by integrating medicine, science, and technology. This postgraduate program is designed for graduates with a relevant undergraduate qualification in a related field, equipping them with advanced understanding and capabilities in medical biotechnology.


Course Description

Medical biotechnologies are transforming the way diseases are prevented, diagnosed, and treated. This course is designed for scientists eager to excel in the rapidly expanding biotechnology sector, preparing them for leadership in industries or academia. The program integrates state-of-the-art biotechnology facilities and expert-led classes, developing core scientific competencies in parallel with professional development and leadership experience.


Course Features

  • Biotechnology subjects: Students build high-level skills with a series of core subjects underpinning the contemporary biotechnology field, including advanced microscopy, proteomics, and bionanotechnology.
  • Professional subjects: Students complete subjects common to many UTS postgraduate science degrees, such as advanced communication skills and understanding data and statistical design, and can customize their remaining professional stream credit points.
  • Elective subjects: Extensive elective choices allow students to tailor their studies to meet professional goals, including additional science study, leadership skills, or high-level research skills.

Admission Requirements

To be eligible for admission, applicants must have completed an Australian bachelor's degree or higher qualification, or an overseas equivalent, in a relevant field such as biochemistry, microbiology, or medical science. English language requirements include an IELTS Academic overall score of 6.5, with a writing score of 6.0.


Course Duration and Fees

  • The standard course duration is 1.5 years full-time or 3 years part-time.
  • Indicative total tuition fees for government-supported domestic students are $14,425.00, and for domestic students, $53,523.00. Fees are reviewed annually and may change.

Articulation with UTS Courses

This course is part of an articulated program comprising the Master of Medical Biotechnology, Master of Medical Biotechnology (Extension), and Master of Philosophy in Medical Biotechnology. Students can apply for a course transfer, with subjects completed in the Master of Medical Biotechnology granted full recognition of prior learning.
