BFA Programme in Wood Oriented Furniture Design
The BFA Programme in Wood Oriented Furniture Design is a three-year, 180-credit program offered by the HDK-Valand - Academy of Art and Design at the University of Gothenburg. The program is designed for those who wish to work with furniture from an exploratory and conceptual approach to materials, innovation, and sustainable development.
Programme Structure and Content
The program provides a foundation in materials, techniques, and design methodology, with a focus on wood as a material. The first year is foundational, with exercises that enhance skills in sketching, craftsmanship, and production. The second year emphasizes the relationship between the environment, contemporary society, and history, with training in developing products or furniture for specific environments and companies. The third year deepens in methodology, design, and communication, culminating in a degree project that allows students to investigate and carry out an exploratory design project in furniture design with a focus on wood.
