About the Program

The program provides in-depth knowledge of psychiatric nursing for individuals of all age groups. As a specialist nurse, you will develop strategies for supporting and caring for people with mental health issues and often have independent nursing responsibilities related to complex problems.


Education

The education aims to equip you with the professional skills to care for individuals with mental health issues and psychiatric diseases. The program focuses on advanced assessment, care planning, and rehabilitation of patients in psychiatric care, as well as scientific methodology, leadership, and development work.


Curriculum

The program includes:

  • Clinical deepening in psychiatric care (VFU)

Eligibility and Selection

  • Eligibility: Requires, in addition to basic eligibility, a Nordic license as a nurse, one year of work experience as a nurse, a bachelor's degree in nursing or equivalent, and Swedish B and English A at the upper secondary school level or equivalent.
  • Selection: Based on higher education credits, maximum 165 (50%), and work experience (50%).

Practical Training

The program includes operational training (VFU), which is practical training in healthcare where you, under supervision, apply and practice the theoretical knowledge and skills you have acquired.


After Graduation

The education leads to a specialist nursing degree with a focus on psychiatric care and a Master of Science degree in nursing. The labor market for specialist nurses in psychiatric care is very good, with a wide range of job opportunities in various healthcare settings.
