Course Content

The course will give students an opportunity to gain job experience within the field of biology, either at the university or an external organization or company. Students will perform independent experimental or theoretical work under supervision and are required to find a suitable workplace and project themselves. At the end of the course, students will present their work in a written report in English.


Prerequisites and Selection

Entry Requirements

Alternative 1: Completed basic courses in biology comprising 60 credits in the subject areas of cell biology, molecular genetics, evolution, botanical and zoological physiology, ecology and biodiversity, and systematics, or equivalent, of which at least 45 credits must be approved. At least one in-depth course of 15 credits in a relevant area is also needed. Alternative 2: Completed or attended the course Introduction to sustainable production and utilization of marine bio resources, 15 credits, MABI01. For both alternatives, it is required to provide the requirement in English by an internationally recognized test, for example TOEFL, IELTS, the English proficiency should be equivalent to the level of English 6/English Course B from Swedish Upper Secondary School.


Selection

Selection is based upon the number of credits from previous university studies, maximum 165 credits.


Facilities

Teaching takes place where the project is carried out. The student may need both a supervisor who helps with the practical implementation on site and a supervisor at the department who can provide comments on the scientific part of the work and the report writing.
