FREN1020 – I French Studies 2
General Information

- Unit description: This unit seeks to further develop skills acquired in FREN1010, providing a framework for students to communicate effectively in French and immerse themselves in contemporary French culture.
Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this unit, students will be able to:
- Develop comprehensive elementary level skills in reading, writing, listening, and speaking in the French language.
- Identify, describe, and evaluate some aspects of French-speaking cultures and societies.
- Identify, evaluate, and deploy the grammatical structures of French at elementary level.
- Apply relevant language conventions to create meaningful intercultural encounters.
- Demonstrate an awareness of some language and language use, in both French and in English.
Assessment Tasks
The assessment tasks for FREN1020 include:
- Comprehension skills (40%): Short Answer Tests on French Grammar and Vocabulary, due at the end of Week 6 and Week 9.
- Written Production (30%): Short written task in French on set topics, due at the end of Week 12.
- Oral Production Skills (30%): Speaking tests in French, due in Week 13.
Delivery and Resources
The unit consists of 2 x 2 hour seminars face-to-face for internal students, and online flexible students are provided with 2 x instruction videos per week to work through weekly content.
