This course introduces the most important concepts related to Supply Chain in the fashion industry, and illustrates strategies and techniques for effective Supply Chain Management.
Course Description
The course gives an overview of Supply Chain Management in the fashion sector, addressing the concepts of Supply Chain and Supply Chain Management, starting from basic definitions, explaining the main goals and priorities of a supply chain in the fashion industry, and critically analyzing the specificities of the fashion sector compared with other industries.
Intended Learning Outcomes
By actively participating in this MOOC, you will be able to:
- Compare the fashion supply chain with other industries, identifying strategic levers for responsiveness and evaluating the impact of AI on supply chain efficiency and innovation.
- Assess the relationship between New Collection Development and supply chain sustainability, distinguishing between circular and linear business models.
- Evaluate the role of digital technologies and innovation in enhancing efficiency and reducing the environmental impact of the supply chain.
- Develop a comprehensive understanding of procurement strategies in fashion and luxury firms, evaluating the decision-making process for "make or buy".
- Foster innovation and cost management through strategic supplier partnerships.
- Analyze the warehouse processes and challenges specific to fashion companies, including traditional and emerging storage and picking solutions, tracking and tracing systems, and the key issues faced in real-world cases.
- Examine the issue of illegitimate trade in luxury fashion, evaluate the technologies and strategies, and understand the integration of legal, communication, and technological solutions for effective anti-counterfeiting practices.
Prerequisites
No formal knowledge is required.
Course Structure
The course consists of 4 weeks:
- Week 0 - Introduction to the course: Introduction to the course content and objectives.
- Week 1 - Supply Chain Basics: Introduction to the concept of Supply Chain Management in the fashion industry, and recent trends affecting fashion supply chains, including the use of Artificial Intelligence to improve supply chain performances.
- Week 2 - Developing a sustainable supply chain: Focus on managing a sustainable supply chain, investigating how seasonal collection development is connected with supply chain decisions and how fashion companies should design their products and supply chains to assure a sustainable future.
- Week 3 - Managing suppliers: Management of suppliers for the success of fashion and luxury firms, discussing the role of procurement, analyzing the procurement process in detail, and introducing useful frameworks to support Make-or-Buy decisions and spending analysis.
- Week 4 - Managing logistics: Focus on logistics and distribution, with particular attention to managing the warehouse of finished goods, and using technologies such as RFID to guarantee tracking and tracing along the chain and fight against illegitimate trade.
Assessment
The final grade for the course will be based on the results of answers to assessed quizzes. You will have successfully completed the course if you score a total of 60% (or higher) in each of the assessed quizzes.
Certificate
You can achieve a certificate in the form of an Open Badge for this course if you reach at least 60% of the total score in each one of the assessed quizzes and fill in the final survey.
