Program Overview

The "Made in Italy. Storie del design italiano" course is a MOOC (Massive Open Online Course) offered by the Politecnico di Milano. The course aims to promote knowledge of the history of Italian design, with a particular focus on the second half of the 20th century.


Course Description

The course proposes a selection of works and projects that will be progressively updated with other works and protagonists. It intends to favor the knowledge of the Milanese reality of Foundations, Archives, and Museums of Italian Design, as a concrete testimony of the legacy left by the most important figures.

Learning Outcomes

If you actively participate in this course, you will be able to:


  1. Understand the history of Italian design, starting from a direct study of the projects and works of some of the Masters of Italian Design.
  2. Identify and describe, using the correct disciplinary language, objects and interiors made by the Masters of Italian Design, distinguishing the main historical-artistic and socio-economic contexts.
  3. Connect and compare objects and interiors in analogous contexts, justifying your arguments with a critical and historically founded approach.

Prerequisites

No specific prior knowledge is required to follow the course.


Activities

In addition to accessing the course contents, constituted by videos and other types of online resources, you will be able to discuss and exchange ideas on the MOOC topics with other participants through the Forum. It is also strongly recommended to visit the Foundations and Museums partner of this course.


Valuation

The course provides for the issuance of an Open Badge, obtainable based on the score achieved by responding to the evaluated quizzes. You have unlimited attempts to respond to each quiz, but you must wait 15 minutes. The course is considered completed adequately for the obtaining of the certificate if you reach at least 60% of the overall score in each of the evaluated quizzes.


Attestato

The course provides for the issuance of an Open Badge by correctly responding to at least 60% of the questions in each of the evaluated quizzes and responding to the final questionnaire.

The course is delivered online and is free.

  • Leyla Ciagà: Architect and PhD in Conservation of Architectural and Environmental Heritage, she has been a researcher and associate professor in the History of Architecture and Design at the Department of Design of the Politecnico di Milano since 2008.
  • M. Teresa Feraboli: Architect and associate professor at the Department of Design of the Politecnico di Milano, she has taught for the School of Civil Engineering and Architecture and currently teaches History of Design and Architecture at the School of Design.
  • James Postell: Architect and associate professor of Product Design, School of Design, Politecnico di Milano, and Emeritus Professor of the College of DAAP of the University of Cincinnati.
