Introduction to the Master of European Design (MEDes) Program

The Master of European Design (MEDes) program is a collaborative effort between several European universities, including the Politecnico di Milano, aimed at providing multidisciplinary training to excellent students in the field of design. The program seeks to establish processes and methods for selecting and training motivated and excellent students in design, preparing them for professional engagement with educational platforms and contexts in partner countries.

Presentation of MEDes

The MEDes program involves various European universities and aims to provide students with a broader understanding of design practices, methods, and opportunities for research and training in different contexts. The program is designed for students who have completed their first two years of study and wish to pursue a master's degree in design.

Partner Universities

The partner universities in the MEDes program are:

  • Aalto University, School of Art, Design and Architecture, Helsinki (Finland)
  • Köln International School of Design - KISD, Colonia (Germany)
  • The Glasgow School of Art, GSA Glasgow (Scotland)
  • Konstfack University College of Arts, Stockholm (Sweden)
  • ENSCI, Les Ateliers, Paris (France)
  • Universidad de Aveiro, Aveiro (Portugal)

Program Structure

Students selected for the program will spend four semesters studying at two of the partner universities, acquiring a broader understanding of design practices and methods. The program is designed to provide students with the necessary intellectual, cultural, and technical skills to operate professionally in design environments, including companies, in European and international contexts.

Teaching Methodologies

Students will enter the program at different levels, depending on the content and methods characteristic of each partner university's educational offer. The entry and exit points for students from the Politecnico di Milano are set for the third year of the bachelor's degree and the first year of the master's degree. Students will attend theoretical courses, project laboratories, and intensive workshops, with additional support for language and cultural integration.

Recognition of Study Periods

Students participating in the program will have their study periods recognized according to the modalities established by the Erasmus platform. The first year of study at a partner university will be recognized, and the second year will be recognized after a joint evaluation by the commission responsible for the valuation procedures, in accordance with the respective educational programs.

Diploma Supplement

The international training program will award a diploma supplement to the Master's degree conferred by the Politecnico di Milano, providing a document that certifies the student's participation in the MEDes program and describes the skills and knowledge acquired during the program.

Career Opportunities

The MEDes program aims to train design professionals with the necessary skills to operate in European and international contexts. The program provides students with a broad understanding of design practices, methods, and opportunities for research and training, preparing them for professional engagement with educational platforms and contexts in partner countries.
