Program Overview

The 3-day workshop, "Basics in Statistics," is designed for all IRTG 1450 members and interested postdocs. The workshop aims to teach basic statistical knowledge and provide participants with tools to decide which statistical tests are appropriate to use in various contexts.

Program Details

The workshop will cover the following topics:

• Introduction to statistics and descriptive statistics
• Philosophy of hypothesis testing
• Common tests for simple experimental designs, including:
  • Chi-squared
  • T-test
  • ANOVA
  • Non-parametric alternatives
• Basics of linear regression to explore correlations and causation between variables

Program Organization

The workshop is organized by the Collaborative Research Centre 1450 "inSight" at the University of M³nster.

Program Requirements

No prior knowledge of statistics is necessary to participate in the workshop. Code examples will be provided in the programming language R, but no programming knowledge is required. The aim of the course is not to teach a specific computational tool to conduct statistical tests.
