نظرة عامة على البرنامج

M2 - Parcours Physique des plasmas et de la fusion (PPF)

The physics of plasmas is an interdisciplinary research field structured around major research programs in materials science, astrophysics, planetology, thermonuclear fusion, high-intensity lasers, as well as significant societal challenges that bring together innovative processes for material resistance, environment, health, propulsion, and space weather.

Objectives

The objective of this course is to train high-level scientists, engineers, and researchers capable of investing in plasma research programs, whether natural or artificial, cold or hot, dilute or dense. The teaching covers the physics of natural plasmas, cold process plasmas, thermonuclear plasmas, and laser-plasma interaction.

Curriculum

The curriculum includes:

  • Fusion by Magnetic Confinement (FCM)
  • Natural Plasmas (PN)
  • Cold Plasmas and Processes (PFP)
  • Laser-Plasma Interaction (ILP)

Double Diploma

Sorbonne Universitť and the University of Pisa offer an opportunity to integrate into the international context of tomorrow's research in the field of plasma physics. This training allows students to study at each university within the master's program "Physique Fondamentale et Applications" (Sorbonne Universitť, M1) and Laurae Magistrale in Fisica (UNIPI, M2) and obtain a double master's degree from Sorbonne Universitť and UNIPI (Europlasmi curriculum).

Research Areas

The research areas covered by this program include:

  • Plasma physics
  • Thermonuclear fusion
  • Laser-plasma interaction
  • Space weather
  • Material resistance
  • Environment
  • Health
  • Propulsion

Unique Aspect

The "Physique des plasmas et de la fusion (PPF)" course is the only generalist master's program at the national level that offers fundamental teachings in plasma physics. It integrates theoretical, simulation, and experimental approaches within research laboratories and with major national instruments (Tokamaks ITER and WEST, high-power laser - Megajoule, Apollon, Petal, Laser X, pulsed machines, space missions (Solar Orbiter, MMS, ...)).

International Opportunities

This training is backed by the "Formation aux sciences des plasmas et la fusion" federation, dedicated to training in plasmas, which brings together the skills of most laboratories in France, and thus opens up to many professional horizons. There is also a possibility of financial support for a stay in the host country upon selection.
