Industrial engineering is at the heart of society's essential systems. From hospitals to airlines, manufacturers to telecommunication companies, industrial engineers design solutions to improve the performance of complex systems of people, technology, and information.


Admission requirements

Minimum admission requirements

To be considered for admission to this program, you must meet minimum academic criteria:


  1. Completion of secondary school (Grade 12)
  2. Achievement of the minimum average for your program of choice.
  3. Completion of Grade 12 English (or equivalent course).

Admission to many Dalhousie programs is competitive. This means that meeting minimum requirements does not guarantee admission.


Program-specific admission requirements

  • Minimum overall average: 70%
  • Academic English 12
  • Pre-calculus Math 12
  • Academic Chemistry 12
  • Academic Physics 12
  • One additional academic subject

Program options

Undergraduate students have the option of following a co-op program (five years) or a non-co-op program (four years).


The following Industrial Engineering Program option is offered by Dalhousie University's Faculty of Engineering and Faculty of Agriculture.


  • Bachelor of Engineering (for degrees only)

What you will learn

In the first two years of their degree, all engineering students complete the core engineering program. You can take this program either on the Sexton Campus in Halifax, or the Agricultural Campus in Truro. You will study math, science, engineering science, and design, developing a broad foundation in engineering.


At the end of your first year, you can apply to enter Industrial Engineering. In the Dalhousie's Industrial Engineering Program, you'll learn how to review workflows, analyze data, and learn mathematical models to create effective processes.
