Introduction to the Associated University Program
The Associated University Program is an innovative initiative that allows students to complete the first two years of their Engineering degree (BEng) at an associated university. Upon successfully completing the program, students are granted automatic acceptance into the third year of the accredited Engineering degree programs at Dalhousie University.
Program Overview
The program is designed to provide students with a strong foundation in engineering, which can be completed at one of the associated universities. These universities include:
- Acadia University
- Cape Breton University
- Saint Francis Xavier University
- Saint Mary's University
A formal Memorandum of Understanding exists between Dalhousie and each of the Associated Universities, ensuring that students from the Associated University programs are treated on an equal basis with students who entered the program at Dalhousie University. The Memorandum states that academic merit will be the only deciding factor on admission to disciplines.
Dalhousie's Engineering Diploma Program
Alternatively, students can begin their studies in a smaller campus environment through the Engineering Diploma program at Dalhousie's Faculty of Agriculture in Truro. This program is the academic equivalent of the first two years of an Engineering degree (BEng), and upon completion, students can complete the final two years of their BEng in Halifax.
Admission to Dalhousie
To enter the Faculty of Engineering at Dalhousie after completing the engineering program at an associated university, students must:
- Complete and submit a Dalhousie undergraduate application form.
- Submit an official transcript of their associated university academic record, verifying completion of the program entrance requirements to the Registrar by the date shown on the application form.
