Introduction to the Bachelor of Interior Design Program

The Bachelor of Interior Design program at Ajman University is designed to holistically prepare students for the challenges of the market. The program aims to equip students with creative and practical design skills, enhancing their career opportunities. Through industry placements, students gain valuable exposure to the workplace, and the program has a strong track record of employment for its graduates in renowned international organizations.


Program Overview

The Bachelor of Interior Design program requires the completion of 125 credit hours. Upon completion, students are awarded a degree in Bachelor of Interior Design. The program's mission is to provide high-quality interior design education, focusing on developing students' technical and design skills for gainful employment and community contribution.

Interior Design Goals

Graduates of the Interior Design program shall have:

  • Appropriate skills for data collection, analysis, design, and evaluation of interior design projects
  • The mental competencies to utilize technology effectively in conceiving spatial designs and producing communicative construction documents
  • The aptitude to collaborate with various design and construction team members
  • A developed sense to recognize and respond to environmental factors, cultural, and heritage aspects of a geographical context

  • Advanced knowledge of design and technical tools required to create functional and sustainable interior environments

Admission Requirements

Admission to the Interior Design program requires a UAE Secondary School Certificate or its equivalent with a minimum acceptable grade of 60% (Elite/Advanced/General Tracks).

Graduation Requirements

The Bachelor in Interior Design will be awarded upon the fulfillment of the following:


  • Successful completion of all courses in the program curriculum (125 Credit Hours)
  • Successful completion of two Credit Hours of Interior Design Training
  • A minimum cumulative AGPA of 2.0

Program Learning Outcomes

The program learning outcomes are mapped to the descriptors of the QFEmirates for level 7 descriptors and include:


  • Identifying aspects of human behavior in relationship to the social, cultural, and economic context
  • Recognizing a global perspective approach to research methods and strategies relevant to interior design
  • Demonstrating critical and analytical thinking, creative thinking, and the ability to think visually and volumetrically
  • Choosing, evaluating, and applying interior design strategies, tools, products, finishes, and materials considering sustainability, culture, heritage, technology, media, and construction codes
  • Assessing design fundamentals, including elements and principles, standards and systems, techniques, color approaches, and emergent theories
  • Proposing relevant inter and multi-disciplinarily design solutions that address the issues of globally diverse end-users
  • Communicating professionally, individually, and in a team in visual, oral, and written forms, employing relevant technological skills where appropriate
  • Demonstrating social responsibility, ethics, and professional discipline by designing sustainable interior environments and improving the quality of life for occupants

Program Structure and Credit Hours

The Bachelor degree in Interior Design requires the completion of 125 Cr. Hrs. distributed according to the following plan:


  • University Requirements (Compulsory): 6 courses, 18 Credit Hours
  • University Requirements (Elective): 2 courses, 6 Credit Hours
  • College Requirements (Compulsory): 2 courses, 6 Credit Hours
  • Department requirements (Compulsory): 28 courses, 86 Credit Hours
  • Interior Design Elective Courses: 2 courses, 6 Credit Hours
  • Free Elective: 1 course, 3 Credit Hours
  • Total: 41 courses, 125 Credit Hours

The study plan is distributed over eight semesters and two summer semesters, with a detailed list of courses for each semester.
