Introduction to the General Education Program

The General Education Program is a fundamental component of all degree programs, aiming to equip students with the necessary skills to acquire new competencies and knowledge, enabling them to adapt to the changing needs of society and make a positive impact as leaders and lifelong learners.

Program Description

The General Education Program is designed to provide students with opportunities to enhance and develop 21st-century skills in critical thinking, information technology, communication, and interpersonal skills. These capabilities, along with others, are essential for students to become lifelong learners and succeed in their chosen fields. The program is an integral part of all degree programs, with the number of credited hours determined by the specific program of study.

Program Objectives

The General Education Program enhances students' intellectual experience and ensures that all undergraduate students acquire knowledge and proficiency in the following areas by completing one or more higher education-level courses successfully:

  • English Language
  • Arabic Language
  • Islamic Studies
  • National Studies
  • Innovation, Entrepreneurship, and Sustainability
  • Humanities and Fine Arts
  • Social and Behavioral Sciences
  • Natural Sciences and Mathematics

Course Categories

The General Education Program includes various course categories, each designed to develop specific skills and knowledge:

English Language

This category develops students' skills in written and verbal communication in English. Students learn to produce different types of written texts using expression and rhetoric. Through recorded presentations in the classroom, students improve their verbal communication skills.

  • ENG103 English Language for Diploma
  • ENG210 English Language 2
  • ENG310 English Language 3

Arabic Language

Courses in this category are designed for non-Arabic speakers, introducing them to the Arabic language. Using both writing and listening skills, students can produce written texts and communicate verbally.

  • ARA100E Arabic Language for Non-Native Speakers

Humanities and Fine Arts (HFA)

This category develops students' abilities in research and analysis in areas such as history, languages, literature, and rhetoric. Using comparative and interpretive methods, students study the evolution of cultures and societies and how they are represented in primary and secondary sources.

  • ARA100 Arabic Studies
  • ISL100 / ISL100E Islamic Studies
  • EMS100 / EMS100E National Studies

Social and Behavioral Sciences (SBS)

By analyzing human behavior, students can engage in logical discussions and debates about various perspectives and ideologies in modern society.

  • MGT100 Management Essentials
  • SEC100 / SEC100A Introduction to Academic Studies
  • SEC290 / SEC290A Essentials of Innovation and Entrepreneurship

Foundations of Artificial Intelligence

This course provides a comprehensive introduction to artificial intelligence, aligning with the UAE's National Artificial Intelligence Strategy 2031. Through application-based training units and real-world examples, students explore core concepts in AI, such as prompt engineering and multimodal systems.

The course focuses on using widely available AI tools to understand their applications in daily life, combining online digital activities with in-class practical sessions. This enables learners to develop their knowledge in using AI tools, identify ethical issues associated with them, and evaluate the impact of AI on various sectors such as business, education, and government services.

The objective of this course is to prepare AI-aware graduates who can consciously and insightfully interact with emerging technologies.

Natural Sciences and Mathematics (NSM)

This category develops students' understanding of mathematics and natural sciences (biology, environmental sciences, or physics) and their ability to interpret general statistical information presented in the real world. Using mathematical and scientific data to distinguish between facts and opinions, students can think critically and make informed decisions later on.

  • MTH100* Statistics
  • MTH101 Mathematics for General Education
  • MTH110 Differential and Integral Calculus
  • PHY100 Physics
