Program Overview

The Open Games Workshop is a university program designed for Master's students in Media Informatics and Computer Science. The program focuses on game development, game design, and augmented reality, with a emphasis on hands-on experience and project-based learning.


Program Structure

The program consists of three modules:


  • Module 1: Game Design and Game Development
  • Module 2: Working with Unity3D and VR Devices
  • Module 3: Project Workshop

These modules are designed to guide students through digital real-time technologies, 3D simulation, and game engines. The program culminates in a final presentation, where students demonstrate a functioning game application.


Admission Criteria

The program is suitable for:


  • Students of Media Informatics (Master)
  • Students of Computer Science (Master)

Bachelor students may also participate, but only if spaces are available. The program is limited to 24 students, and a waiting list is maintained for additional interested students.


Program Requirements

Students are required to bring their own notebook with the following software installed:


  • Blender
  • Unity3D (current version)

Additionally, each group must have at least one Google Cardboard.


Program Goals

The primary goal of the program is to enable students to develop a comprehensive understanding of game development, game design, and augmented reality. By the end of the program, students are expected to have created a functional game application, which they will present in a final presentation.


Target Audience

The program is designed for Master's students in Media Informatics and Computer Science. However, Bachelor students may also participate, subject to availability of spaces.


Program Schedule

The program schedule includes:


  • Workshops: 9am-1pm, Oettingenstr. 67 | L U114 Sibirien
  • Final presentations: 9am-1pm, Oettingenstr. 67 | L U114 Sibirien

Lecturer

The program is led by Dr.-Ing. Wolfgang H鐬l, who has extensive experience in game development, game design, and augmented reality.


ECTS Credits

The program is worth 6 ECTS credits.

  • P 5.0.2 oder P 5.0.4: Gruppenpraktikum zu fortgeschrittenen Themen der Informatik I oder Informatik II
  • P2, P3 oder P6: Vertiefende Themen f僡 Master

The program is only open to students of Media Informatics/Informatik (Master). Bachelor students may participate under special circumstances.
