Program Overview

The Design Workshop 2 is a university program that aims to apply the skills acquired in the Bachelor's study and Design Workshop 1 to a practical project with an industrial partner. For the summer semester 2016, AUDI AG has been won as the industrial partner. The program is designed for students of Industrial Design at the Technical University of Munich (TUM) and Informatik at the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich (LMU).

Program Structure

  • The program takes place in interdisciplinary teams consisting of students from Industrial Design and Informatik.
  • Each team has access to the workshops of TUM and LMU.
  • With the support of AUDI AG, each team is provided with a budget for materials, allowing for the construction of prototypes without limitations in feasibility and quality.
  • The program's goal is to develop an interactive prototype on a vehicle-specific topic through an iterative design process.

Admission Criteria

  • The program is suitable for MCI students in their 2nd or 3rd semester.
  • A letter of motivation is required, approximately 2000 characters, describing the skills brought to the construction of prototypes and the interest in a vehicle-related project.
  • Application period: between March 10, 2016 (12am) and April 6, 2016 (12am).
  • Participation is limited, and applications are made through UniWorx.

Program Schedule

  • Kick-off date: April 18, 2016, 14-16 Uhr, at TUM Lehrstuhl f³r Industrial Design (Basement, Room -1730).
  • Workshop dates: Mondays, 2 pm - 4 pm, at TUM Industrial Design (Basement, Room -1730).
  • Excursion to Audi Ingolstadt: April 20, 2016, 08.30am - 5pm, location to be announced.
  • Final presentations: date and location to be announced.

Program Requirements

  • Attendance is mandatory at all scheduled events.
  • The program aims to conclude with a final presentation and demonstration of a functioning prototype by the end of the semester.

Research Areas

  • The program focuses on vehicle-specific topics, with an emphasis on interactive prototyping and design processes.
  • Students will work on a practical project with AUDI AG, applying their skills in a real-world context.
