Introduction to the LSU College of Art + Design

The LSU College of Art + Design is a prestigious institution that offers a range of programs in art, design, and related fields. The college is committed to providing students with a comprehensive education that combines theoretical foundations with practical skills.


About the Program

The LSU School of Interior Design is a CIDA accredited program that emphasizes design that brings meaning and identity, function and purpose, health and safety to interior spaces. The program teaches specialized knowledge in creative problem solving, research and analysis, and professional preparedness. Interior designers give life to interior spaces, shaping, organizing, furnishing, and adorning the insides of buildings to reflect personal and cultural aspirations.


Program Details

  • The four-year Bachelor of Interior Design program starts with a first-year pre-professional curriculum.
  • Interior design students spend a lot of late nights in the studio, which they have access to 24 hours a day.
  • Interior design students learn about lighting through specialized studio projects.
  • The program includes a range of courses, such as:
    • Interior Design Studio I, which introduces students to the design process, elements of design applied to interior environments, manipulation of form and space, and visual and oral communication.
    • Interior Design Studio IV, an advanced design studio with special emphasis on research, creative inquiry, process, human behavior, and design development of interior environments.
    • Interior Design Studio VI, the culminating design studio (capstone project) with an emphasis on innovation and comprehensive solutions of complex problems in the interior environment.
    • Principles of Sustainability, which explores the principles, theory, and application of sustainability to advance environmentally responsible interior environments.

  • 98% of 2019 graduates were employed or pursuing further education within six months of graduation.
  • 25+ funded student awards and scholarships are awarded every year.
  • The average student to faculty class-size ratio after the first year of study is 17:1.
