CAMPUS Asia Plus Program Introduction

The CAMPUS Asia Plus "Energy-Environment Science and Technology, Advanced School of International Alliance" (CA+ EEST-ASIA) program is a collaborative effort between Kyushu University (KU), Pusan National University (PNU) in Korea, Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU) in China, and Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) in Malaysia. The program offers two tracks: the Double Degree (DD) course and the Non-DD course.

Double Degree (DD) Course

The DD course is currently offered by KU, PNU, and SJTU. Students enrolled in this course must complete the following requirements:

  • English language course (listening, speaking, and discussion) once a week for approximately 15 weeks
  • Mandatory elective courses in the EEST field, conducted in English
  • Summer school (held in late August, rotating between KU, PNU, and SJTU, for a total of two sessions)
  • Spring semester seminar (held in February or March, rotating between KU, PNU, SJTU, and UTM, mandatory for first-year students)
  • Study abroad at a host university (PNU or SJTU) for one semester, completing a set of courses (conducted in English, worth 14-17 credits)
  • Conduct research under the guidance of an academic advisor
  • Submit an interim report on master's research during the second summer school
  • Conduct master's thesis research in a KU laboratory (focusing on the second year)
  • Write and defend a master's thesis in English (jointly evaluated by two universities)

Students who complete the DD course can obtain a double master's degree from KU and their home university, as well as a completion certificate for the DD course (signed by the presidents of KU, PNU, and SJTU). Typically, obtaining a double master's degree takes three years (including one year of study abroad), but this program allows students to achieve this in just two years.

Non-DD Course

The Non-DD course is also offered by KU, PNU, and SJTU.

Students who complete the Non-DD course can obtain a completion certificate for the CA+ EEST-ASIA course.

Program Details

  • Approximately 10 students are selected for the DD course from among the first-year master's students in the IGSES program.
  • A similar number of students are recruited for the Non-DD course.
  • The UTM-included DD course is scheduled to start in 2024.
  • All courses during the summer school and study abroad periods are conducted in English. To prepare, students participate in an English language improvement course (listening, speaking, and discussion) during the first semester of their first year. Two TOEIC tests are also required to assess English proficiency.
  • The program does not charge tuition fees (including study abroad-related fees and English language course fees). Students receive a scholarship to cover living expenses during their study abroad period, and accommodation is provided by the host university.
  • Master's students who wish to enroll in this program must first obtain permission from their academic advisor and then apply to the CAMPUS Asia office. The CAMPUS Asia office plans to select DD students through an interview in April.
