Introduction to the Year in Industry Program
The Year in Industry program is an opportunity for students to spend a year in employment during their studies, working as a full-time employee for an organization before returning to university to complete their degree. This program is also referred to as a 'placement year' or 'industrial year', and for Law students, it's referred to as 'Year in Practice'. In Biosciences, there is also a research-intensive alternative called a 'Year in Applied Research'.
Benefits of the Year in Industry Program
According to the Institute of Student Employers, 74% of employers say graduates who have completed an internship or placement are more career-ready. The Year in Industry program provides students with full exposure to the company they've chosen to work in and its culture, while developing real-life industry experience and building transferable skills that will set them apart when it comes to finding graduate roles.
