The National and Kapodistrian University of Athens offers various postgraduate programs.

MSc in Digital Humanities

The MSc in Digital Humanities is a new master's degree offered by the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens in collaboration with the University of Cyprus and the ATHENA Research Centre.

• The aim of the MSc in Digital Humanities is to offer scientific expertise and to be a starting point for the development and expansion of research in Digital Humanities.
• The MSc in Digital Humanities offers 4 specializations:
  • Data Analytics for Humanities
  • 3D Technologies
  • Augmented Textual Studies
  • Geographic Information Systems
• The Programme will be educationally supported by faculty members of the three cooperating institutions, as well as by distinguished scholars from other Greek or foreign institutions.
• The Postgraduate Programme admits graduates from Departments of Humanities and Social Sciences, Informatics and Information Science/Technologies and Digital Industry Technologies, in Greece or Departments of recognised cognate institutions abroad with related cognitive object, as well as graduates of T.E. I. departments with related cognitive object.

MSc in Southeast European Studies: Politics, History, Economics

The MSc in Southeast European Studies: Politics, History, Economics is an intense one-year graduate programme, taught in English at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens.

• The Programme is primarily addressed to graduates in the social sciences and humanities (politics, sociology, economics, social anthropology, political and social history, Balkan studies, Modern Greek Studies, journalism, etc).

MSc Media and Refugee / Migration Flows

The Department of Communication and Media Studies of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens organizes and operates for the academic year an Intensive Postgraduate Program (IPP) MSc in «Media and Refugee / Migration Flows» which awards a Postgraduate Diploma in the following specializations:

• News media of refugee flows
• Communication management of refugee/migration flows

MSc in Global Health – Disaster Medicine

The MSc in Global Health – Disaster Medicine coordinated an academic working meeting earlier this month in Athens.

• The event brought together seven Universities from Europe and Asia as part of the EU-funded LEAN project (Erasmus+, Agreement number )

MSc in Journalism and New Media

The MSc in Journalism and New Media (Department of Communication and Media Studies, National and Kapodistrian University of Athens) for postgraduate students to take on the role of political correspondent in a briefing simulation with Government Spokesperson Pavlos Marinakis, now for the fifth year in a row.

University History

The National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, which was inaugurated on May 3, 1837, was initially housed in a renovated Ottoman building on the northeastern side of the Acropolis.

• This building has since been restored and now functions as the University Museum.
• Originally named the "Othonian University," after Otto, the first king of Greece, it consisted of four academic departments and 52 students.
• As the first university of the newly established Greek state, as well as of the broader Balkan and Mediterranean region, it assumed an important socio-historical role, which was pivotal in the development of specific forms of knowledge and culture within the country.
