Program Overview
The "Innovative Audiovisual Work" study program combines selected specialist knowledge from the Master's program in Journalism with methodological foundations of innovative work processes and environments, as well as media-specific knowledge in audiovisual design. The program addresses questions such as: How do audiovisual media function? How do journalists work? What do audiovisual journalistic products look like, and how are they developed and produced?

Qualification Goals/Competencies
In lectures and discussion rounds with practitioners, students learn how to develop audiovisual products in a team and present complex topics attractively to a broad audience using contemporary audiovisual means. They gain initial experience in the practical implementation of what they have learned and the production of audiovisual contributions. They are given tools to enhance their future working day with innovative work techniques and qualify to prepare specialist content in an audiovisual manner for universities, research institutions, organizations, or companies, and to offer it in collaboration with journalists.
Program Structure
Lecture: Theoretical and Practical Foundations (2 LP)
The lecture "Audiovisual Journalism" conveys the theoretical and practical foundations of audiovisual publishing. Students receive a comprehensive overview of the basics of perception, practical image and sound design, and target group-oriented topic research, interviewing, and editing.
Seminar: Innovative Work Techniques (3 LP)
The seminar "Innovations in Audiovisual Production" focuses on innovative work techniques that can be applied beyond the media industry and prepares students for a professional, contemporary, team-based working environment.
Practical: Editorial Office (5 LP)
In the final editorial office, students develop and realize audiovisual contributions with different topics and forms of presentation. They work cooperatively in an editorial team and learn about internal editorial processes and routines.
Examination
Module examinations consist of a 60-minute written exam in the lecture and a portfolio in the editorial office, with a weighting of 40% for the written exam and 60% for the portfolio.
Application and Admission
The certificate can only be started in the winter semester. The application is possible within the following period: May 16th to September 1st. An application is also possible during the application phase for a regular study program at JGU. The prerequisite for participation is enrollment by the start of the semester.

The certificate is administered by the Study Offices AVP and Master Journalismus. The employees of the study offices will help with all content-related questions about the certificate program "Innovative Audiovisual Work".
