Program Overview

The Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) (Mechanical) program is a 4-year program comprising 320 units. This program is being discontinued and is no longer available to new students.


Description

Mechanical engineers work to improve the design, safety, and energy efficiency of machines that support industry and society. This program allows students to choose from a wide range of specializations, making it perhaps the broadest of all engineering disciplines.

Admission Requirements

Eligibility for admission to this program is based on applicants meeting the minimum selection rank or satisfying the requirements for an approved admission scheme. The University of Newcastle accepts a range of qualifications to determine eligibility for admission.


English Language Requirements

All applicants must demonstrate that they meet the University's English proficiency requirement. The overall minimum English language proficiency requirement is 6, with a sub-test minimum of 6.


Recommended Studies

Recommended studies include HSC Mathematics Extension 1 or equivalent, and the study of one science-related subject, such as Physics or Chemistry.


Professional Accreditation

The program is accredited by Engineers Australia, allowing graduates to join as graduate members on completion and as student members during studies.


Career-Ready Placements

Requirements for qualification of this award include completion of at least 12 weeks of industrial experience of a nature acceptable to the College Board.


Program Requirements

The program comprises 320 units, of which 260 units are core courses, 10 units are Physics core courses, 30 units are from the course list, and 20 units are elective courses. No more than 120 units can be at the 1000 level, and at least 40 units must be taken at each level from the 2000 level and above.
