نظرة عامة على البرنامج


DEUTSCH LANGUAGE

The German language course aims to provide written and oral proficiency corresponding to level B1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) in order to develop the inter-/and intracultural skills necessary for working in the local and international tourism sector.


OVERVIEW

The course is divided into two semesters. The first semester is devoted to language exercises (60 hours), and the second semester is devoted to the theoretical module (54 hours).


AIMS AND CONTENT

LEARNING OUTCOMES

The theoretical module of the course provides an introduction to the essential knowledge of grammar, phonetics/phonology, morphosyntax, and semantics/lexicon of the German language in contrastive perspective with Italian. By the end of the course, the student will have acquired a written and oral command of the German language at the B1 level of the Common European Framework for Languages.


AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES

The main objectives of the course are:


  • to provide basic written and oral command of the German language in order to meet demand in the tourism sector
  • to bring the students to a level of proficiency in the German language at B1 level of the Common European Framework for Languages
  • to develop the four skills of oral and written comprehension and production, with a focus on oral skills
  • to teach aspects relating to the development of the main lexical, morphosyntactic, and phonetic skills and to explore topics relating to terminological aspects of tourism

PREREQUISITES

A self-assessment test will be available to check that the incoming language skills correspond to the required A2 level. Those who do not meet the required entry level will be able to fill in their gaps by using additional consolidation material.


TEACHING METHODS

Lessons are in presence, and both the exercises and the theoretical module have the character of a participative lesson, envisaging the active involvement of students. Visits and 'on-site' lessons will be planned at specific company realities in the tourism sector. Attendance is strongly recommended.


SYLLABUS/CONTENT

The four skills of oral and written comprehension and production will be developed, with a focus on the oral skills needed to work in the tourism industry.

  • Communication functions based on the following topics: hotels, restaurants, tourist offices, tour operators
  • Greeting and welcoming guests
  • Managing customer enquiries
  • Providing information to customers
  • Suggesting tourist offers
  • Resolving customer problems
  • Linguistic structures review and in-depth study of the main grammatical structures relevant to the level of the students

THEORETICAL MODULE

  • Introduction to tourism
  • Types of hotels
  • Focus on: Agenda 2030 - barrier-free tourism
  • On the move: On the aeroplane-At the station-Cruises
  • Focus on: Cruises: German tourism Outgoing/Incoming
  • Travelling in Germany

EXAM DESCRIPTION

Language exercises and theoretical module: oral interview (account of experience in a company environment) The final grade is given by the average of the two parts (50% language exercises + 50% theory module)


ASSESSMENT METHODS

Language exercises and theoretical module: assessment of communicative functions learned and oral interview-presentation of research work done based on the company experience.
