Aims and Learning Outcomes

The learning objectives of the course are:


  • Understand that gender is a cultural construct shaped by continuous social and cultural reinforcement of identities.
  • Recognize the social interactions that contribute to defining differences between men and women.
  • Develop critical thinking skills through a gender-sensitive lens.
  • Identify the cultural roots of sexist and homo-transphobic violence, and understand the intersections between these forms of violence.

Teaching Methods

The teaching approach will be participatory, with discussion and debate encouraged through the use of digital platforms. Students will be invited to contribute by suggesting materials related to the topics covered in class.

  • Introduction to the concepts of gender, sex, sexual orientation, and gender identity
  • The social construction processes of masculinities and femininities
  • The gender order and the hetero-patriarchy
