Educational Objectives
The objectives of this course are to:
- Acquire familiarity with abstract algebraic reasoning and the ability to identify similar structures in different environments
- Acquire the ability to formalize problems that involve operations on sets in a mathematically correct way
Detailed Educational Objectives and Learning Outcomes
By the end of the module, students should:
- Acquire familiarity with logical-deductive mathematical reasoning
- Learn the fundamental and foundational concepts of modern mathematics (sets, functions, natural numbers, cardinality)
- Know and be able to use some important results of discrete mathematics and their applications in the computational field (Euclidean algorithm, modular arithmetic)
- Learn to recognize and distinguish simple algebraic structures (monoids, groups)
Prerequisites
Knowledge of literal calculation at a school level and basic concepts of trigonometry.
