Course Objectives

The module aims to present a synthesis of the historical evolution, methodologies of analysis, interpretation, and design of landscape architecture. The objective is to make students aware of the complexity of landscape design projects and to introduce different approaches, modalities, and techniques for landscape analysis and design.

Detailed Course Objectives and Learning Outcomes

Students will acquire the necessary background to tackle the complexities of landscape design projects. They will develop research methodologies aimed at the project, acquire notions on compositional principles, representation, and communication.

Teaching Methods

The course consists of theoretical lessons, seminars, and on-site visits to support project exercises. These exercises will be conducted by groups of two or more students, and their progress will be evaluated through discussions and revisions with the instructor.

Program Content

The course content covers the principles and techniques of landscape design, including topography and earth movements, the use of inert materials and vegetation, and the organization of open spaces. Particular attention is given to the relationship between built elements and open spaces that define the recognizability and identity of the city.
