Objectives and Contents
Educational Objectives
The course provides the knowledge and skills necessary for the management and governance of tourist destinations. It delves into the role of destination marketing and its tools, both in strategic and operational dimensions.
Detailed Educational Objectives and Learning Outcomes
By the end of the course, students will be able to:
- Understand the dynamics of the tourist market
- Analyze the characteristics of tourist destinations
- Identify the components of a tourist destination, their relationships, and governance mechanisms
- Analyze the behavior of the tourist consumer
- Hypothesize a marketing strategy for the tourist destination, combining traditional and innovative tools
Teaching Methods
The course combines frontal teaching with seminar interventions by experts and individual and group activities. Attendance is not mandatory.
Students with certified disabilities, DSA, or other special educational needs are advised to contact the department's reference person at the beginning of the course to agree on teaching and examination methods that respect the course objectives and provide appropriate compensatory tools.

- The components of a tourist destination: tourists, territorial attractions, tourist services, and businesses
- Destination management and territorial governance: nature and role of DMOs
- Relationships between destination actors
- Tourist demand and consumer behavior
- The evolution of a tourist destination and sustainability issues related to its development
- Destination marketing
- Online destination marketing and web presence

Assessment Method
The exam will cover the topics discussed during the lessons and presented in the textbook; it aims to assess whether the student has reached an adequate level of knowledge and has acquired the ability to understand the relationships and implications for the management and development of tourist destinations.
