Program Overview

The program in question is "GOVERNO CLINICO E QUALITŔ IN RIABILITAZIONE" (Clinical Governance and Quality in Rehabilitation), which is part of the academic offerings at the University of Genoa.

Presentation

Clinical Governance is a global approach to managing healthcare services that places the needs of individuals at its core. The concept of quality is central, emphasizing doing the right thing, at the right time, in the right place. This involves methodologies and tools such as guidelines, evidence-based assistance, risk management, information systems, training, multiprofessional integration, and performance evaluation.

Objectives and Contents

Formative Objectives

The purpose of rehabilitative intervention is to "gain health," viewing individuals with disabilities and participation limitations not as "patients" but as "persons with rights." The task of rehabilitative intervention is to define the "person" and then implement all necessary health interventions to enable the person to achieve the maximum possible level of functioning and participation, in line with their will and context. Through Clinical Governance and its tools, the healthcare and non-healthcare components of rehabilitative intervention become synergistic.

Detailed Formative Objectives and Learning Outcomes

By the end of the course, students will be able to:

  1. Quality: Understand the evolution of the quality concept, define an organization oriented towards quality improvement, identify tools/modalities useful for achieving quality, and comprehend concepts like efficacy, efficiency, accessibility, appropriateness, competence, and user satisfaction.
  2. Clinical Governance: Know the difference between Clinical Governance and Clinical Government, interpret Clinical Governance as a system of Manager/Clinic integration, identify the role of Rehabilitation Personnel in pursuing Clinical Governance, and understand the tools of Clinical Governance.
  3. Risk Management: Comprehend the importance of learning from adverse events, know Root Causes Analysis and Incident Reporting systems, define the importance of implementing corrective actions, and understand the importance of evaluating effectiveness and its impact on Good Practices.

Didactic Modalities

Teachings are conducted through frontal lessons using slides and explanatory films. The student/teacher ratio allows for direct confrontation and the use of collaborative didactic methodologies, guided discussions, and work in small groups.
