Presentation

This course aims to focus on the context in which one operates, both in the past and present. It offers the opportunity to learn about the historical evolution of landscapes, parks, and gardens, as well as contemporary themes related to open spaces. The study methodology provides the basis for intervening in both historical and contemporary contexts. The theme of sustainability is analyzed not only in relation to current critical issues but also in the past, highlighting numerous idiosyncrasies.

Objectives and Contents

Educational Objectives

The course aims to provide students with theoretical knowledge of landscape architecture in its historical evolution and introduce them to methodologies suitable for landscape design and requalification operations.

Detailed Educational Objectives and Learning Outcomes

The disciplinary results of this course are to provide tools useful for the design of landscape architecture, as well as for urban planning and urban design. Therefore, the course is fundamental for intervening in any type of open space, from the small scale of a terrace or garden to the large scale of a park or territorial plan, because it offers an exhaustive knowledge of the past and the existing to intervene through a project of sustainable open space with the context in which one operates.

The transversal skills are numerous, as the course is useful for different disciplines, not only design but also urban, historical-cultural, geographical, and artistic. It offers a general and useful basis for operating in different contexts. Numerous on-site visits will be made to highlight the theoretical work in the field and to deepen the concept of disciplinary transversality.

Didactic Modalities

The lesson consists of a theoretical part and an exercise part. Each exercise, corresponding to the main topics covered in the lesson, is constituted by a MOODBOARD paginated in an A3 table. The moodboard can be elaborated in a group, although the discussion during the exam will be individual.

Numerous on-site visits and study tours are planned.
