BSc Meteorology and Climate
The BSc Meteorology and Climate course at the University of Reading is designed to tackle the biggest issues facing the planet today, including ozone depletion and climate change, alongside world experts in the UK's only dedicated meteorology department.
Overview
On this course, students will explore all aspects of meteorology and climate, from atmospheric science to oceanography, whilst learning from world-leading researchers. The course is approved by the Royal Meteorological Society and provides a range of opportunities to enhance employability.
Global Impact
The University of Reading is ranked 4th in the UK for environmental and ethical performance and 3rd in the UK for research power in Earth Systems and Environmental Sciences. The department is also ranked 10th in the world for Atmospheric Science.
Entry Requirements
- A level: ABB, including grade B in A level Mathematics
- International Baccalaureate: 32 points overall, including 5 in Mathematics at higher level
- BTEC: Not accepted unless studied alongside A level Mathematics
- Extended Project Qualification: Recognised as part of a formal offer
- English language requirements: IELTS 6.5, with no component below 5.5

- New UK/Republic of Ireland students: £9,790 for 2026 entry

Careers
A degree in Meteorology and Climate will provide students with a range of transferable skills, including teamwork, presenting, computing, data set analysis, numeracy, scientific writing, and the ability to work to deadlines. Graduates can pursue careers as forecasters or research scientists at national organisations or commercial companies, or move into environmental and physical sciences, mathematics, teaching, banking, and accountancy.
