Micro-certificate in Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, and Accessibility (EDIA)

The Micro-certificate in Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, and Accessibility (EDIA) is a program designed to build EDIA knowledge and skills as a critical part of personal and professional growth. The program focuses on individual and collective attitude and skill transformation, aiming to improve equity and access at the University of Manitoba.

• Program Length: 72 contact hours
• Program Features: For members of the UM community, including UM students, staff, and faculty; offered online and in a hybrid format
• Program Fees: No cost to the learner
• Cross-campus Collaboration: This EDIA program brings the UM community together to learn and grow with topics and skills related to EDIA

Program Objectives

The program objectives are to:

• Articulate areas of strength, transformation, and further learning relating to EDIA content and competencies
• Implement and advocate for action plans for change relating to EDIA from your particular social location and position at the University of Manitoba
• Critically reflect on your own knowledge, skills, and lived experiences and assess your own and others' actions
• Better appreciate, understand, and empathize with perspectives and experiences different from your own

Program Courses

Required Courses

• EDIA 0102: Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, and Accessibility: Expansions (36 contact hours, offered in Summer 2026 and Winter 2027)
• EDIA 0104: Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, and Accessibility: Actions (18 contact hours, offered in Summer 2026 and Fall 2026)
• EDIA 0106: Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, and Accessibility: Reflections (18 contact hours, offered in Summer 2026 and Fall 2026)

Admission Criteria

• Prerequisite: Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, and Accessibility: Foundations
• Applicants must have completed the prerequisite course to apply to the program
• Current UM students may need to fill out a "Permission for concurrent curriculum form" with their faculty

Expected Duration

The expected duration of the program is up to 18 months.
